Blown Glass
36 x 36 x 8 cm
2024
Jo Guile is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice includes installation and sculpture. Her practice is informed by working with specialists, such as physical chemists. Taking glass as her subject matter as well as medium, she breaks down and reforms light in stand-alone and site-specific works, exploring how glass can record, distort, and reconfigure the environments we move through, drawing viewers into an active encounter with light, surface, and the act of looking. By shifting materiality in these ways, her work holds on to moments otherwise lost or unseen, opening up a virtual elsewhere as well as a virtual elsewhen.
